Dental Hygiene and Gum (Periodontal) Treatment
At New Street Dental Care, we feel it is vital to educate our patients to have the skills and knowledge to prevent deterioration of their oral hygiene prior to treatment and to look after their newly restored teeth and gums as effectively as possible.
This treatment is carried out by our hygienist, Chloe. Regular visits with a hygienist play a vital role in the prevention of tooth decay, gum disease and bad breath. Hygienists are also very important in motivating younger patients to adopt good habits early in life, which can help prevent a lifetime of dental treatment.
Natural tooth coloured fillings are a popular choice because the composite material can match the shade, translucency and even the texture of your own teeth providing a much better result than old amalgam/silver fillings which can be unsightly when you smile.
Here at New Street Dental Care we can offer you tooth coloured fillings.
Crowns and Bridges
Crowns are used to repair badly broken down teeth and bridges to replace missing teeth.
At New Street Dental Care, we can also offer all porcelain crowns which are strong and look just as natural. Being made of porcelain they do not leave a black line at the gum level as seen in so many conventional crowns.
Sadly, there are times when we cannot save a tooth or that you may request that a tooth or a root is removed.
Here at New Street Dental Care, we pride ourselves in making this experience a positive and reassuring one, skilfully and painlessly removing it all.
Root Canal Treatment
Root canal treatment is carried out when the pulp (soft tissue inside a tooth) is either inflamed or dead. The pulp is a tissue made up of nerves, connective tissue and blood vessels. Pulp may become inflamed or may die if either there is significant decay in a tooth, if there is a large restoration (filling or crown) or if the tooth has been subjected to trauma.
At New Street Dental Care we have a special interest in this type of treatment which can prolong the useful life of a tooth.
People wear dentures to replace lost or missing teeth so they can enjoy a healthy diet and smile with confidence.
Dentures are made of either acrylic (plastic) or metal.A ‘complete’ or ‘full’ denture is one which replaces all the natural teeth in either the upper or lower jaw. A ‘partial’ denture fills in the spaces left by lost or missing teeth. It may be fastened to your natural teeth with metal clasps or ‘precision attachments’. At New Street Dental Care, we have access to some of the country’s best technicians to provide you with either type of acrylic or metal dentures.
Nowadays, the vast majority of dental visits are a positive and fun experience for children.
Regular check ups are necessary to promote good oral hygiene measures and an appropriate diet. Early intervention can prevent decay leading to fillings and tooth loss. Monitoring of the developing dentition is also important to correct any crowding or jaw irregularities at the appropriate time.
Sports Mouth Guards
With some sports activities, there is always a chance of injury, especially if it involves contact with another person, the use of bats, sticks and balls! Wearing a custom made sports guard will save your teeth from that devastating blow that can ruin or lose your teeth for life.
These sports guards come in a variety of colours and thickness depending on the type of sports that is played, they are made from a flexible high impact absorbing polymer, designed to support the teeth and protect the gums, and individually moulded to casts of your teeth, so they fit you and you alone. They are available in a range of bright colours (you can have up to 5 colours in each mouth guard). And come complete with the player’s name, an X ray radio opaque strip, CE mark and the players name permanently sealed within them.
Teeth Grinding Guards and Splints
If you grind your teeth while you’re asleep, you may need to wear a mouth guard or mouth splint at night. These even out the pressure across your jaw and create a physical barrier between your upper and lower teeth to protect them from further damage. They can also reduce any grinding noises you make at night.
Mouth guards are similar in appearance to those used in sports and they’re usually made out of bendy rubber or plastic. A splint (also known as an occlusal splint or bite plate) is made from harder plastic and fits precisely over your upper or lower teeth. Although mouth guards and splints may help reduce muscle activity in your jaw at night, they’re only able to control the condition, not cure it.
When we age, changes to the mineral structure of our teeth can cause them to darken and substances such as wine, tobacco and chocolate only make matters worse. Because yellow teeth can look ‘unclean’, this discoloration can for many people become embarrassing. Luckily, teeth bleaching can make your smile white again. In fact, the technology has come such a long way and New Street Dental Care can provide you with two types of home bleaching systems.
Teeth whitening is a form of dentistry and should only be performed by a dentist or another regulated dental professional, such as a dental hygienist or dental therapist, on the prescription of a dentist.
All On Four Implants
Teeth Now, also known as All on Four (or All on 4), is a revolutionary new technique whereby a whole arch of failing teeth is replaced with dental implants in a single visit. The teeth are removed, implants placed and high-quality fixed temporary teeth are fitted, all without the patient needing to leave the Clinic.
Teeth Now/All on Four can also be carried out for patients who have previously lost their own teeth and currently wear dentures. The temporary teeth are fixed so patients can be free from their dentures on the day of implant placement. Once the healing period is completed and the implants have integrated with the bone, a high-quality, durable permanent titanium fixed bridge is fitted.
Dental Implants – the next best thing to natural teeth.
Dental implants are permanent replacements for failing or missing tooth roots. They are titanium supports for replacement teeth, such as crowns, bridges and dentures. They enable the restoration of a natural smile, improving patient comfort and confidence. For many dental problems, both functional and aesthetic, implant treatment is increasingly the patient’s preferred option.
If lifestyle changes don’t help, there are a number of anti-snoring devices you can try that can help prevent snoring.
We are aware some people are so frightened of dental treatment. They can overcome their fears with sedation. We are sympathetic about these feelings and have helped many patients overcome their fears.
Fresh Breath Treatment
We work with you to first find what it causing the problem and giving you comprehensive tailored oral hygiene instructions. Bad breath is usually cause by bacteria that is allowed to build-up and a very common place this happens is in the tiny little projections on our tongue where the taste buds are found. We can use a combination of air, water and an antibacterial powder to thoroughly remove the bacteria that gets trapped on your tongue. This is particularly effective for tobacco smokers who have noticed a black staining on their tongue in addition to possible odour.
Uses a combination of air, water and a very fine powder to gently but effectively remove surface staining on the teeth cause by coffee, tea, red wine, curry or smoking.
